About the Department



The services of Department of Geriatric Mental Health were initiated at LGBRIMH from 1st of August 2021. The department is involved in providing specialised mental health services to persons older than 60 years of age as well as training and academic exposure in the field of geriatric mental health.

Services:

Clinical: Currently, the Department of Geriatric Mental Health of LGBRIMH is providing Outpatient and In-patient services. The department deals with

  • Screening, evaluation and management of various psychiatric problems in the older adults like cognitive impairment, depression, anxiety, sleep problems and other mental health problems.
  • Counselling services.
  • Cognitive training, therapy and other Psychotherapies for the older adults.
  • Assessment and support services for the caregivers
  • Promotion of physical activity and training by liaison with the department of Rehabilitation.
  • OUTPATIENT:

  • Four days in a week: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday
  • Time: 9.00 AM – 2.00PM
  • INPATIENT: The in-patient facility of the department has 24 beds.

    Academic: The Department of Geriatric Mental Health currently has clinical exposure and training posting for trainees of both medical and non-medical background besides having regular academic programmes.
