A Centre for Psychological Care & Mental Health Promotion among Youth of LGBRIMH

Young people are entering a world of constant change, be it technological, societal, economic or climatic- resulting in a wide range of mental health challenges. Mental health issues in the youth have been increasingly becoming a global concern, so much so that, the theme for 2018 World Mental Health Day was ‘Young People and Mental Health in a Changing World’. According to WHO (2018), it is estimated that 10-20% of young people in the age group of 10-19 years have some form of mental illness, yet they are either under-diagnosed or under-treated. Moreover, one in every second college youth experience psychological distress in the form of subclinical symptoms. A majority of the rest of the ‘normal’ youth are not performing at their highest level of psychological functioning (flourishing). To sum up, mental health matters to every youth.

Our institute has risen up to the occasion and have initiated mental health awareness and promotive activities for youth through the establishment of HUB. It formally started functioning in March 2019 and since have been running its services/programs in a small scale. It plans to expand and extend its services soon post its 1st annual wellness festival called ‘Yuva Mann Meet’.
