Research Activites of the Institute


1. The ongoing community project entitled “Integration of Mental Health Service Towards Development of Community Based Rehabilitation” with aid from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Govt. of India has entered final phase.

Self-help groups are functioning satisfactorily and the ASHA workers, employed under NRHM are given new responsibilities in this project. They are doing their jobs under supervision of the primary health care workers. Key village leaders and NGO activities are the helping hands in their work.

2. The Institute has been selected as one of the site for the Indian Psychiatric Society sponsored multi-site research project entitled “Multicentre Study on Prevalence and Phenomenology of Functional Somatics Symptom in Depression” and necessary initiative have been taken.

3. A research project will start very soon in 2011 in collaboration with Sangath, Goa with aid from Dorajee Tata Trust for designing a model for care of homeless mentally ill persons.

4.The Institute is selected for to be a site for Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Govt. of India sponsored research project entitled “Prevalence and correlates of sexual dysfunction in patients with schizophrenia receiving antipsychotics: A clinical study” & “A comparative study on thyroid profile in patients with unipolar and bipolar depression”.

5. The Institute is also proposed to be an agency for a project entitled “Development of Sustainable & integrated models of community mental health of India.” It is proposed to be done in collaboration with competent agencies of Govt. of India & Australia under guidance of DGHS & NIHFW, Govt. of India.
